What are vitrified tiles?

A vitrified tile is made by mixing silica, clay, and quartz, then pressing and firing the blend at very high temperature until it fuses, or vitrifies, into a glass-like, non-porous surface. That fusion is what gives vitrified tiles their strength and their near-zero water absorption.

Because there’s almost no porosity, vitrified tiles don’t need a separate glaze layer the way ceramic does. The color and pattern often run through the whole body of the tile, so a chip or scratch doesn’t show a different color underneath, which matters in high-traffic areas. This is also why vitrified holds its finish for years without the surface wearing thin, unlike a glazed tile where heavy foot traffic can eventually dull the top layer.

Vitrified vs ceramic vs porcelain tiles

Material Water absorption Durability Price per sq.ft
Vitrified Less than 0.5% Best for high-traffic and heavy-load areas ₹55-150
Porcelain Less than 0.5% Best for outdoor and heavy use ₹60-90
Ceramic 3-7% Good for indoor use ₹35-75

Vitrified and porcelain both sit under 0.5% water absorption, so they’re close on durability. Vitrified tends to win on load-bearing strength, which is why it’s the standard choice for parking areas and heavy-footfall commercial floors, something ceramic simply isn’t built for.

Vitrified tile finishes and texture

Anti-skid vitrified tiles

An anti-skid finish has a slightly rough surface that improves grip underfoot, even when wet. This is the finish you want for bathroom floors, parking areas, and any outdoor-facing floor where rain or spills are a factor. Our matt finish range covers most anti-skid needs.

Polished vitrified tiles

Polished vitrified tiles get a mechanical buffing pass after firing, which brings out a mirror-like shine. They look sharp in living rooms and lobbies, but skip them for wet-area floors since the smooth surface gets slippery fast. See our high-gloss finish collection for the polished look.

Vitrified tile designs and colours

Wooden-finish vitrified tiles

Wooden-finish vitrified tiles print a real wood grain pattern onto a tile that never needs sealing, sanding, or the upkeep solid wood flooring demands. It’s a popular pick for living rooms and bedrooms where you want warmth without the maintenance. Browse wooden tiles for the full range.

Light grey vitrified tiles

Light grey is one of the most requested vitrified shades right now. It hides everyday dust and footprints far better than white, without going as dark as a full charcoal floor. See our grey tiles collection for shade options.

White vitrified tiles

White vitrified tiles open up a room visually and pair with almost any wall color or furniture. They show dust faster than grey, so they suit lower-traffic rooms like bedrooms better than a busy hallway. Check out white tiles for the full lineup.

Applications of vitrified tiles

Vitrified tiles for flooring

For general living room and bedroom flooring, vitrified is the safe, durable default. It handles daily furniture movement and foot traffic without showing wear the way a softer tile might over a few years.

Vitrified tiles for bathroom

On bathroom floors, stick to an anti-skid vitrified finish since the near-zero water absorption combined with grip keeps the floor safe even when it’s constantly wet. See our bathroom tiles range.

Vitrified tiles for kitchen

Kitchen floors deal with oil, water, and dropped cookware daily. Vitrified’s toughness and stain resistance make it one of the better choices here, especially in a matt or anti-skid finish for grip near the sink and stove. Browse kitchen tiles for more options.

Vitrified tiles for parking

This is where vitrified genuinely stands apart from ceramic and even porcelain. A parking floor takes constant vehicle weight, tire friction, and exposure to oil drips and rain, and vitrified’s density holds up to all of it without cracking or staining the way a lighter-duty tile would. Go with a thicker, anti-skid vitrified tile here, not a polished one. See our parking tiles collection.

Vitrified tile sizes

Size Common use Price per sq.ft
400 × 400 mm Parking, outdoor, utility areas ₹70-85
600 × 600 mm Bathroom, kitchen, general flooring ₹55-83
600 × 1200 mm Living room, bedroom, large floors ₹62-81
1200 × 1800 mm Large halls, premium living spaces ₹125-150

Note: Prices vary depending on material, design, finish, and collection. Check individual product pages or contact our team for current pricing.

All four sizes are in stock. See the full range for each: 400×400, 600×600, 600×1200, and 1200×1800.

Vitrified tile thickness

Size Thickness
400 × 400 mm 12mm
600 × 600 mm 9mm
600 × 1200 mm 9mm
1200 × 1800 mm 15mm

The 400x400mm tile runs thicker at 12mm since it’s the size we recommend for parking and outdoor areas, where extra thickness helps handle vehicle weight and impact. The large-format 1200x1800mm goes up to 15mm, since a bigger slab needs more thickness to stay rigid and resist cracking under its own size. The 600x600mm and 600x1200mm sizes, meant for regular indoor floors, stay at a standard 9mm.

Vitrified tiles price

Vitrified floor tiles price

Vitrified floor tile prices range from ₹55 to ₹150 per sq.ft, depending mainly on size. Smaller formats like 400x400mm and 600x600mm sit at the lower to mid end, while the large-format 1200x1800mm commands the highest price due to the manufacturing complexity of firing a bigger slab evenly.

Price by size

  • 400x400mm: ₹70-85 per sq.ft, popular for parking and utility areas
  • 600x600mm: ₹55-83 per sq.ft, the most common all-purpose size
  • 600x1200mm: ₹62-81 per sq.ft, fewer grout lines for bigger rooms
  • 1200x1800mm: ₹125-150 per sq.ft, premium large-format for statement floors

What affects the price

  • Size: bigger formats cost more per sq.ft due to firing and handling complexity
  • Finish: polished and high-gloss finishes typically cost more than matt or anti-skid
  • Design: wooden-finish and patterned vitrified tiles cost more than plain, single-tone tiles
  • Batch: rates shift between manufacturing batches, so confirm current pricing before a bulk order

For a full floor or a parking area, the size you pick swings the total cost more than any other factor. and we’ll break it down by size and quantity.

How to choose the right vitrified tiles

For bathrooms, pick an anti-skid finish in 600x600mm for grip on a wet floor.

For kitchens, go with a matt or anti-skid finish, in either 600x600mm or 600x1200mm, for grip near water and cooking spills.

For parking, choose a thicker, anti-skid 400x400mm tile built to take vehicle weight and outdoor exposure without cracking.

Vitrified tile prices at Icestone Ceramica range from ₹55 to ₹150 per sq.ft, depending on the size you choose.
Vitrified tiles absorb less than 0.5% water, compared to 3-7% for ceramic. Vitrified is stronger and better suited to high-traffic and parking areas, while ceramic works well for lighter indoor use.
2×2 ft (600x600mm) vitrified tiles are priced between ₹55 and ₹83 per sq.ft.
Yes, especially in an anti-skid finish. The low water absorption and improved grip make vitrified a safe, durable choice for bathroom floors.
Yes. Vitrified is one of the best tile options for parking, thanks to its strength, low water absorption, and resistance to cracking under vehicle weight.
Icestone Ceramica stocks vitrified tiles in 400x400mm, 600x600mm, 600x1200mm, and 1200x1800mm.
Thickness depends on size: 600x600mm and 600x1200mm tiles are 9mm, the 400x400mm size used for parking is 12mm, and the large-format 1200x1800mm tile is 15mm.
Yes, we’d recommend it. A polished or glossy finish gets slippery when wet, while anti-skid tiles keep the floor safe even with constant water exposure.
Check the edge or a chipped corner: ceramic tiles show a different, usually reddish or beige, color underneath the glaze, while vitrified tiles are the same color all the way through since the pattern runs through the whole body. A drop of water also tells you fast, ceramic absorbs it slightly, vitrified barely absorbs any at all.
